Edit 2 - digital editing at its best!

All of the company's new productions are edited in Edit 2 - our digital edit suite.

Audio, video, graphics and music data is stored in digital form on our central media servers, which have capacity for several hundred hours of video data.

All digitised material is accessible from the workstation in each technical area - including Edit 2.

Edit 2 – editing desk

Edit 2 - analogue VTR's
Edit 2 is based on the proven Avid/Pinnacle Liquid series NLE system, offering up to 50 megabit quality. The suite is equipped with several analogue and digital VTR's and ATR's.

Edit 2 is designed to meet the challenge of a gradual migration from analogue to digital production and account is taken for the fact that for many years - even after the introduction of HDTV, archive material in standard definition formats will continue to be essential programme content in otherwise digital productions.
Digital editing - especially when undertaken with such an intuitive and powerful software platform as Liquid, has many benefits in comparison to analogue editing.
Apart from the higher picture quality without generation-loss, the working process is far easier to follow and control, because all audio and video clips in a production can be "seen" as graphic objects on the edit computer's user interface.

An overview of the production - once confined to the editor's "inner eye" is now available to all involved in the post production process - even many years after the production was first edited, the edit structure of the production remains accessible.

Because the production data is stored outside the edit suite on the central media server, Edit 2 is a quiet and cool working environment, in which it is possible to undertake recording - of narration, music or effects dubbing - with the artists in the same room as the engineer and production staff. For many productions this means a faster and more creative approach to the working process.

Edit 2 is an unusually powerful non-linear editing suite - not least because the central media server has capacity for the media data of several major productions at the same time - or for productions that run over a longer period, during which the need to move or delete data from the server to create space for other productions would be an expensive and time-consuming exercise.
For the technically interested!

The design and commissioning of Edit 2 in 2000 and 2001 was a particularly demanding process.

Channel 6 Television was amongst the first production companies to implement a non-linear editing system with remote media data storage over gigabit networking, using third-party computer hardware.

This led to an intensive and fruitful cooperation with Dell Computers and a unique technical solution for Edit 2.

Edit 2 - Edit desk at launch in 2000

Despite the many advances in digital editing and networking technology since 2001, much of the know-how and expertise that we harvested during the development of Edit 2 remains valuable for future development projects.

Edit 2 has direct access to Edit 1 and the central apparatus room, as well as additional analogue and digital VTR's in the duplication suite. From Edit 2 VHS duplication can also be undertaken direct from the production's digital master file, giving VHS copies of first generation quality.
As the company's primary post-production facility, Edit 2 is under constant improvement. For productions with special requirements such as dubbing and rostrum camera work, Edit 2 can be supplemented with additional equipment for our other technical areas.
