Productions
for broadcast television
|
|
| Since
our first commission in 1984 for the Danish public television channel
Danmarks Radio, Channel 6 Television has produced many programmes for
Danish broadcasters. |

|
| Danish
broadcast television programme contractors face exacting challenges. In a
small country with many television channels, many productions must be
realised within the limitations of a tight budget - yet such programmes
will be aired alongside Danish prestige productions or renowned
international programming. |
|
| Denmark's
commissioning editors demand high quality - in both the pitch and concept
for the production, as well as the creative and technical production
values.
With a programme schedule comprising many
Danish and international productions, the Danish broadcaster demands that
all programmes meet the same technical standards - regardless of whether
the production is made in Hollywood or Horsens.

|
More
than any client, the broadcasters demands absolute guarantee of delivery -
programs must be produced on schedule and delivered on-time - and when a
programme scheduled for a 28 minute slot is delivered, it must be exactly
28 minutes duration. |
|
| Besides
the demands that the production company must meet there are similar
demands on the production team. |

A
television programme must be fresh and relevant for the audience. The
programme content must be put together so as to attract and hold the
viewer's attention, often against stiff competition.
The audience must be able to identify with the subject and the
participants - should be recognisable, the content should reflect or
appeal to the interests, ambitions and values of the viewer - though never
forgetting the ability of the medium to surprise, question or inspire and
entertain. |
|
Any
nation with a language that is spoken by only a few million people faces
major cultural challenges regarding broadcast television. Compared with
English programme producers, the Danish broadcaster has less opportunities
for international sales - so a major proportion of Danish language
programming must be financed solely for a Danish audience - with a limited
funding base. To deliver both quality and quantity, the Danish production
company must be able work hard and think differently.
In recent years, many Danish production companies have demonstrated the
will and ability to do just that. With the help of television license
income and limited advertising and underwriting revenue, the production
values of Danish television programming are as high as anywhere in the
world. |
|
Our
own productions
Channel 6 Television has produced many programmes for broadcast
television.
Whilst of these programmes were commissioned directly by one of the Danish
television channels - DR or TV2 - some productions are financed and
produced by other organisations, and were subsequently aired on Danish
television. |

Channel
6 Television has been active in many areas of production. Over the years
we have learnt where our strength in production lies.
Our geographic location often implies that news and sport, and live studio
productions such as light entertainment - all of which are usually
produced in the major cities - are not our core activities.
On the other hand, the classic "hand-made" single-camera
production with demanding post-production work is our speciality; when
producing children's programming, natural science features or
documentaries, we are on "home ground". |

Facility
work
Besides producing our own productions, we have supplied location units and
crews, and post production facilities for many Danish broadcast
productions.
There are often benefits for the broadcaster when contracting external
facilities for productions with a requirement for extended, demanding
post-production work. |
|
| Channel
6 Television's regular and freelance programme and production staff have
many years experience in production for broadcast television - we
understand the demands of this work and we seek the challenge. |
|
Channel 6 Television works with broadcast clients in several ways.
A production project can be the result of our own creative development and
programme proposal, or it may be based on a detailed brief from a
broadcaster, who has clearly defined requirements. |

Channel 6 Television often enters into co-production ventures with other
production companies and freelance creative production staff. If you have
an idea for a production for broadcast television, we would welcome the
opportunity of an informal, creative discussion to explore the possibility
of a co-operation with you. |
